08 Apr Multilingual Children’s Books
Encouraging bilingual literacy is paramount to language and heritage conservation efforts in Qatar. Although Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation has produced a series of Arabic books that are a great start to a regional library, there is a need to expand access to children’s books’ that share a local perspective. This project aims to add to the library while addressing the growing demand for multilingual children’s books that embrace regional stories from across our diverse community. Students gathered traditional and contemporary English/Arabic stories, developed new narratives, illustrated the stories, and produced the books in physical and digital formats. The primary audience for their work is young children (ages 1-10) and their parents. The hope is to distribute the work to museum bookshops, local schools, and the Apple iBookstore.
