In class today we watched the short video “The Story of Bottled Water” which tells the story of manufactured demand. It discusses how you get people to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. The film explores the bottled water industry’s attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces.
We discussed how this issue applies to the UAE, how it applies to you as a designer, and how you might be part of the solution. We can make an impact as designers, community members, and mothers. This is a huge opportunity for millions of people to wake up and protect our wallets, our health and the planet.
