One of the highlights of my recent trip to Taipei was the opportunity to visit the International Design House Exhibitions as part of the World Design Capital Taipei 2016. With Songshan Cultural & Creative Park serving as the main exhibition area, we had a whirlwind tour of the major halls and a peek into the diverse aspects of Taipei as an “Adaptive City – Design in Motion.” The core concept of the 6 major exhibition halls aim to improve the city with design through an examination of the following themes: Life Quality and Health, Ecological Sustainability, Smart Living, Urban Regeneration, and other issues regarding urban development.

The Power of Taiwan Design Pavilion

“Stone-wearing, a power that seems small but never ends. It’s the outcome of outward breakthrough and inner penetration, and it represents the persistence and effort of Taiwan design. From small to large, it sees our insistence for design aesthetics. Stone-wearing, a power that seems small but never ends. Previous WDC cities and those developing the future through design are invited to join the event to share cases of social problems solved through design and the trends of mobilizing urban development through design.”

From Ink to Apparel—A Crossover between Calligraphy Art and Fashion Design

“Yang-Tze Tong believes that a city has a responsibility to continually enhance its cultural and aesthetic standing and, to this end, hopes to use the art of calligraphy to realize life’s possibilities. For this exhibition, Tong has chosen 20 pieces from her “Silent Music” series. Working hand-in-hand with fashion designers, she imbues the exhibition with her calligraphy’s energy, rhythm and attitude.”
