Know Justice

The ‘Know Justice, Know Peace’ poster was chosen for inclusion in the socially-motivated ‘Sue Coe & Area Artists’ exhibition held in Raleigh, NC.

The poster employs a non-traditional narrative structure to take viewers on a journey of speculation and self-examination. The poster includes excerpts from both William Shakespeare and Martin Luther King Jr. to question the consequences of injustice.

In Sonnet 66, William Shakespeare laments about the corruption, dishonesty, and social evils of the world, beginning “Tired with all these for restful death I cry.” The second excerpt in the poster “no justice, no peace” is based upon a Martin Luther King Junior speech stating,“Without justice there can be no peace. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps perpetrate it.”
