Social awareness is the ability to understand and interpret one’s society, constructs, values and norms. Through a series of lectures, discussions, and creative explorations—students identify a mainstream topic to de-mystify through a chosen medium. The form of the design intervention should persuade the public to ‘think differently’ about the issue using communication strategies of irony, shock, emotion, fact, instruction, and/or coding. Topics include dyslexia in mainstream education, privacy policies in social media, fashion sizing, nationality discrimination, and representations of a perfect life on social media.
