In October 2011, I participated in the 5-day Khatt Foundation Type Design Workshop hosted by Tashkeel in Dubai, UAE. This intensive workshop was led by renowned Arab designers Huda Smitshuijzen AbiFares, Lara Assouad Khoury, and Pascal Zoghbi.
The resulting Al Haraka Baraka (movement is a blessing) poster was created to represent my custom designed “Kaf.” The theme for the poster builds upon a personal definition of the urban landscape and development of Dubai. Often defined by its diverse population, Dubai is home to a growing expatriate community and a thriving tourist economy. The poster aims to capture the spirit of this unique Emirate as people move from one location to the next, from one side of the world to the other. The remnants of each location imprint onto the spaces and serve as a reminder of the fleetingness of time.
The poster was exhibited as part of the ‘Khabsa!’ exhibition held between October 25th and November 3rd, 2011.
