This weekend a friend visiting from DC loaned me the book “The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance” and I immediately fell in love with the book jacket design. The hand-drawn typography interlaced with red boot strings was an immediate draw, but the quirky and charming expression of the hands had me hooked. I had to track down the creator.
What I found was the unique and delightful work of Alëna Skarina who is self described as having a “deep affinity with animals and their poignant nature, which is conveniently complemented by her second profession – a cat whisperer.”
The organic nature of her typographic work coupled with a keen eye for the emotive nature of her subject matter is simply lovely. Check out more of her work on her here.
